Double-decker at Wambrechies

Are there guinguettes close to the Belgian border? Yes indeed!!! One of the nicer ones is the one at Wambrechies, l'Amusette, thanks to its location and distinctive bus.

The Lille region has a lot of guinguettes, but some are more authentic than others. The advantage: it is close by, so you can integrate a visit into a day trip. The downside: the region isn't called Le Nord for nothing. So if you leave at 2 p.m., there may be a cloud a few hours later. As happened to me. And even the "vividly warm" filter couldn't conjure away the gray clouds in my photos.

One of the better ones is L'Amusette in Wambrechies, in the green fringe north of Lille. When you get a huge, red double-decker in your field of vision, you know you're in the right place. The atmosphere is very relaxed and family-oriented, you can sip cocktails and Belgian beers (West Coast IPA among others), or go for the inevitable Ch'ti Burger 🍔 with creamy maroilles 🧀 from the food truck. Meanwhile, hang out in a beach chair or maybe you'd rather give the French a go at one of the four pétanque courts?

🚴‍♀️ L'Amusette is on the towpath of the Deûle Canal, so you can get there by bike.
Option 1: you make a loop from Lille, with the guinguette as a nice stop in the middle of your course. All together you then paddle about 30 kilometers.
Option 2: you start in Armentières, first riding along the Lys and then turning to the canal towards Wambrechies or - for the sporty - as far as Lille.

L'Amusette will be open from April 20, 2025, every day (except Monday) from 3:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Check the facebook page where you can also see what cultural activities are scheduled. Address: 1015 Rue de Quesnoy, 59118 Wambrechies.
